Sharon Edwards, Director & Principal

APA Musculoskeletal & Sports Physiotherapist & Lymphoedema Physio
Having over 15 years experience in private practice managing clients with simple injuries to more complex in elite sport across the world, Sharon trained at the respected Kings College, London University completing one of the last existing 4-year undergraduate degrees in Physiotherapy in England earning honors on completion. She has specialised skills in the management of spinal injuries having completed a Masters in Manipulation at the University of Queensland, 2002, renowned internationally for its expert tuition and critically demanding assessment of its students. Having jam-packed her life with practice and study since graduation, she has also completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy, 2003, gaining titled membership of the elite few Sports Physiotherapists in Australia, and has other degrees, licenses & training in Biomechanics, Pilates, Combat Medicine, Women's & Men's Health, TMJ (jaw dysfunctions) and Acupuncture as well as specialised training in Lymphoedema Management in 2008– enabling her to be considered as probably one of the more qualified physiotherapists around!

Sharon has spent a large part of her career working closely with podiatrists and sporting teams including Sport England, the British Army, the Queensland’s Reds & the Australian Wallabies, the Australian Institute of Sport and the Queensland Academy of Sport and a number of sports teams in rugby, AFL & athletics. Sharon was also part of the physiotherapy team for the Australian Judo Team for the Olympic Games in 2008.

 

Sharon competed internationally for Great Britain in Judo in 1991, Central England Champion 1989 and National Gold Medalist Champion 1991, Brown belt in Seiki Juku Karate, Gold Medalist for a number of competitions in the UK, 9 years in the British Army in Artillery on Light Guns 105 Number 3 winning the King George VI cup in 1993 with the 256 Field Hospital Royal Army Military Corps, then trained as a Combat Medic and passed Sandhurst Commissioner Training becoming a Physiotherapist and Lieutenant in the Territorial British Army in 1998. Represented the Royal Army Medical Corps in the British Army Slalom Skiing Championships in Canada in 2000 coming 14th in her division of 140 competitors. Having experienced many injuries over the years due to her sporting hobbies, as well as a spinal fracture in 1993, this inspired Sharon to drive her physiotherapy in results based treatment and to show others how they can live a near pain free life following even the most severest of injuries.

 

Sharon has also had her Masters Research paper published in the European Journal of Physiology 2003 on neck pain and muscle fatigability and this research was presented at the 2nd World Congress on the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, in Prague, Czech Republic in May 2003.

 

Her skills as a physiotherapist and research in Rugby, at the University of Queensland, led her to orchestrate and present the main content at the first British Rugby Seminar in 2004 with the English Rugby Medical team, following the World Cup win in 2003, with an audience of over 50 delegates over 2 days. As part of Sharon’s additional lecturing and sharing skills she also regularly runs international courses teaching physiotherapists taping techniques, sports physiotherapy, lower limb biomechanics and other management strategies for injury prevention and treatment.

 

As Director, and Principle, of Physio on Brunswick it is Sharon’s role to ensure the clinic maintains the clinical excellence it has been recognised for, training staff, and assisting them, in refining their skills in skilled assessment and treatment of injured clients. Sharon’s attention to detail and friendly personality enables her to take the time to get to know her patients clinically and on a personal level and achieves great results!

Linsay Rogers, B. Phty (Hons), Physiotherapist

Since Qualifying at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK in 2001 with an Honors degree in Physiotherapy Linsay has developed a keen interest and great enthusiasm for the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.  She attends regular courses to further qualify and develop her manual therapy skills and keep abreast of the latest evidence and developments. 

In addition to her musculoskeletal skills Linsay is also trained in Bobath Neurological Rehab giving her exceptional skills in managing clients with hemiplegia and paralysis.

As well as her excellent manual therapy skills, Linsay also combines the use of acupuncture and muscle energy techniques.  She is a friendly and empathetic member of the team, her thorough assessments and treatments ensure that her treatment is on an individual basis to suit the needs of each person. Linsay also knows the frustrations injuries can bring when trying to keep fit having experienced a few herself over the years. She has worked in a number of practices in the private and public sectors in the UK, NZ and is now with us as a permanent resident in Australia and is an experienced clinician and a joy to the team.

Bryan Henry B. Phty, Physiotherapist, Cert Applied Physiol & Health Sc

Bryan trained in Physiotherapy in Aberdeen, Scotland after leaving his home ground in Ireland in 2002 and moved to work in New Zealand in 2007. Bryan moved to Australia in 2009 where he provided corporate physiotherapy to a number of mining companies and has been at Physio on Brunswick since 2010. Bryan covered a number of Rugby and soccer teams in NZ and will soon be completing his training in Pilates Rehabilitation and instruction.

Elliot Campbell B. Phty, Dipl Ex Prescription, Certificate Event Mngt & Ex Prescription, Physiotherapist & Pilates Rehab Instructor

Elliot completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Otago, NZ. Elliot gained valuable experience in private practice on the Gold Coast as well as specialising in Pilates for rehabilitation post injury as well as for performance improvement in highly trained atheletes. In addition he has worked in hospital settings providing essential experience with a wide range of surgical and orthopaedic procedures as well hydrotherapy and has provided physiotherapy for a number of corporate companies. Elliot has also had significant exposure to sports physiotherapy providing cover for a number of weekend sports in NZ. Elliot is experienced in providing sports specific training programs as well as injury prevention and treatment for return to sport as well as work activities.
Elliot has spent the last year refining his pilates training, especially in Stott, and this has complimented his skills and allows a unique integration into his treatments with a holistic and global approach to rehab.

Daniel Nguyen, B.Phty, Physiotherapist, Pilates Rehab Instructor

 

Daniel graduated from the University of Queensland in 2003 and again in 2008. Daniel has also qualified with extra training in Pilate’s rehabilitation ensuring he can get the best results from treatment with his rehab skills. Daniel has completed both a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Bachelor of Science within the field of anatomical sciences. Using his expertise, Daniel is in charge of our Souths Magpies Rugby Union contract working with elite players that are also part of the Australian Wallabies and the Queensland Reds. With his multi-level qualifications in Pilates and continual gym experience, Daniel has excellent knowledge in rehabilitation and management of both sporting and work-related injuries. With interests in nutrition, ergonomics, Pilates and personal training, he combines his knowledge and enthusiasm and achieves great results with his clients.

 

Rachel Hollingworth, Womens & Mens Health Physiotherapist, B. Phty,

Rachel offers private consultations in our specialist Women's & Men's Health Suite at Physio on Brunswick, Fortitude Valley. She also works at the QE II Hospital providing specialised care for a variety of pelvic, bowel & bladder dysfunctions with a wealth of experience.

 

Mike Conway M.Phty Muscl, M. Phty Studies, B.Sc Ex Physiol, C.S.C.S, Physiotherapist

Mike Conway is a Masters qualified physiotherapist, having completed his degree at the University of Queensland and then his postgraduate Masters in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2008. Mike has also completed a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology at the University of Victoria in Canada. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist having recieved his accreditation from the US. Mike has extensive years of experience in sport in Canada and Australia, having competed a national levels himself in tennis, which compliments his expertises in designing and implementing strength training and conditioning programs for athletes individually and in a team setting. His areas of interest include injury prevention, sports and exercise rehabilitation, neck and low back pain. Mike is completing further studies through 2009 to become one of the increasingly few physiotherapists in Australia with a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland giving him recognised special and advanced skills in treating musculoskeletal & sports injuries.

Thiago Botelho, B. Physical Therapy (Brazil)

Thiago completed his physiotherapy degree in Brazil and practised there and taught Pilates to physiotherapists and clients. Thiago has been at Physio on Brunswick since 2006 bringing immense skills from Brazil with his involvement in soccer and is also part of our pilates team. Thiago will be assisting our Mayne contract for 2009 and assists as a sports trainer and qualified pilates instructor. Currently Thiago is studying a degree in Acupuncture to add to his qualifications.

Marcelo Montenegro, B. Physical Therapy (Brazil), M. Orthop Trauma (Brazil), Post Grad Neuro Phty (Brazil)

Marcelo completed his physiotherapy degree in Brazil in 2003, where he has worked with teams for elite level soccer and tennis. Marcelo has also published a few scientific studies in physiotherapy and set up his own physiotherapy company whilst practicing in Brazil before migrating to Australia in 2007 with his next aim to complete his Masters Physiotherapy program at the University of Queensland. Currently Marcelo assists as a sports trainer.

Ferran joined the team in 2010 having completed a physiotherapy degree in Spain in 2008. He is currently completing his English exams with a view to appy for his physiotherapy licensing exams late 2010.

Massage Team

Liz Hook - Remedial Massage Therapist, Dipl. Rem. Massage, Dipl. of Holistic Therapy (UK)
Liz has studied Diploma of Remedial Massage at the Australian Institute of Applied Science in Brisbane and a Diploma of Holistic Therapy in the UK. She specialises in sports and remedial massage and her treatments are a combination of deep tissue techniques, sports massage techniques and cross fibre mobilisations. Liz has a number of years of experience in treating athletes and clients with musculoskeletal injuries drawing from some of her international experiences from the UK. She has a great passion for her work and this is reflected in the large great results she achieves with her clients. She has a proven track record with many years in the industry doing wonders with his clients and is a welcome addition to our ever popular approach to therapeutic massage, rehabilitation and injury prevention.

Terry Castelli, B.Hlth.Sc. (Acu), Adv. Cert. Acu/Herb (China), Acupuncturist & Certified Remedial Massage

Terry has been awarded a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) degree, Advanced Diploma of Acupuncture and Certificate IV in Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedial Massage (An Mo Tui Na) in April 2007. His professional education at the Australian College of Natural Medicine and the internship in China has given Terry extensive knowledge of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. These opportunities have allowed him to gain invaluable experience in the field of Classical and Contemporary Chinese Medicine. Terry's internship, on completion his studies, was at the Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University, their affiliated hospitals and their Front Clinic. This gave him invaluable practical experience in the areas of acupuncture, cupping, moxa and herbs. Terry's sought after skills in natural healing treatment means his time is spilt between two practices within Brisbane. He is more than happy to chat to anyone who wants to know more about Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine and how it can help you.

Senior Grade 1 Clinical Pilates Instructors

As Pilates Rehab instructors for some years now Alanna, Elliot, Sharon, Natasha, Daniel & Thiago have completed comprehensive courses in the rehabilitation of injuries qualifying them as Clinical Pilates instructors working with people suffering back problems, arthritis and many other conditions. They have become valued members of the staff as they have achieved stunning results with clients giving them renewed confidence and mobility and an understanding and knowledge of the importance of exercising correctly. These valued staff work wonders and provide individual attention to all their patients either in a class or a one on one session. These staff have a keen awareness of the links of injury and muscle balance and work closely with all the therapists in the clinic to ensure the best outcomes and results from every class and session.

Maura Padilha - Podiatrist

One of the longest serving members of staff at Physio on Brunswick since 1999 and having many years experience as a Podiatrist, Maura has an endless passion for her work with vast experience ranging from the Biomechanics of Young Children to Diabetes. Having worked as a lecturer at a well-known University in Brazil, she has also completed courses in Physics, Medicine and Biology to ensure she offers you the best treatment possible! Maura’s caring and sincere personality and great clinical skills ensures the best treatment for her patients and she establishes great relationships with her clients.

Dietetics

Trang Tran, Accredited Dietitian, BSc. Nut and Dietetics

Trang Tran is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist who holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition and Dietetics obtained from the Queensland University of Technology. Trang is an active member of the Dietitian’s Association of Australia and continually undertakes further training to keep her knowledge and skills updated.

 

Trang has worked in various settings including public and private hospitals, community health centres, medical centres as well as organizations such as Nutrition Australia.

 

Trang has a passion for food and it’s effects on health, energy and vitality. She specializes in nutrition coaching and works to motivate clients to achieve their nutrition goals.

Kelly Riediger, M. Nut and Dietetics and B.App Sci (Ex and Sport Sci)

Kelly Riediger is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist who has a Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Bachelor in Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science).  Kelly is an active member of the Dietitians Association of Australia and Sports Dietitians Australia and she is also fully qualified in Anthropometry (body composition).  Kelly has just relocated from Sydney and is now available on Thursdays mainly, some Saturdays and other evenings by appointment at Physio on Brunswick.

Kelly has specialist skills and knowledge in clinical and sports nutrition.  She has extensive experience in weight management, sports nutrition, diabetes, general nutrition issues, gastrointestinal disorders, women’s health, cardiac care/hyperlipidaemias and undernutrition.  Kelly can provide a personalised program and provide individual dietary counselling to meet the individuals goals and lifestyle.  Kelly is also available for corporate/group presentations and industry consultations. 

After being overweight herself as a child, Kelly understands the barriers and difficulties to losing weight.  However after seeing a dietitian herself as a child, a passion for food, health and fitness began which has now led to her empowering other people to achieve a healthier lifestyle and well being.
